Toyota recalls, but problems remain

First it was floor mats, now it is an accelerator mechanism from a supplier. Toyota has been scrambling to deal with an upwelling of complaints about unintended acceleration issues with its cars. But will the latest recall fix the problem? Although Toyota identified a problem with the accelerator in a variety of late model cars, some experts are pointing to electronic throttle controls. Even Steve Wozniak sounded off about an acceleration problem in his Prius, caused by repeatedly raising the cruise control speed. Questions about inconsistent braking in the Prius caused the U.S. and Japanese governments to open investigations.

When I saw the Apple iPad unveiled last week, I immediately thought about how I could mount that sucker in my car. After all, Apple's Mac Mini is already the heart behind many custom car computing setups and there are more than a few car-centric iPhone and iPod Touch apps that will certainly be compatible with the new device. I am a custom installer and the first thing that crossed my mind was, "How many of my customers are going to want this in the dash somehow?" And, you know what, I have received that request twice already. One guy wants me to mount his Clear WiMax antenna in his trunk once the iPad comes out. Could be cool; I can see this at car shows later this year.  Read more
