NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series drivers waited until the final moments of an otherwise uneventful Daytona 500 before taking off the gloves to fight for the win in stock-car racing’s biggest event. But despite a thrilling finish, the season-opening race was marred by two lengthy delays to fill a huge pothole between turns one and two--delays that interrupted the flow of the race significantly.

Jamie McMurray, generally considered a NASCAR journeyman, led only the final two laps in the second “overtime” shootout for what is obviously the biggest win of his career. He beat the onrushing Dale Earnhardt Jr., with Greg Biffle, Clint Bowyer, David Reutimann, Michael Waltrip, Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards and Juan Pablo Montoya completing the top 10 in the...
