Bump Day is Sunday, and qualifying is now just a two-day session. The format is new, with a final pole shootout among the fastest nine qualifiers at 4:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday. There are many nuances to the format, but each of those nine will have two chances to earn the No. 1 starting spot in the 90-minute session. That doesn't mean the five hours leading up to the shootout will be dull. The fastest of those cars gets first choice on pit boxes for the race, a significant advantage. Also, only 24 positions can be won on Saturday; the remaining nine will be up for grabs on Sunday. Once the field is full, bumping of the slowest cars can begin as normal.... |
