85 miles in an electric car

Mitsubishi recently invited us to drive its i-Miev electric car from San Francisco to Sacramento, an 85 mile journey for which the i-Miev did not actually have the range. To let us cover the distance, and to show off some new technology, we stopped in Vacaville, Calif., about 55 miles outside of San Francisco, for a recharge at Eaton's new rapid recharge station. Being a city car, the i-Miev is not exactly designed for this sort of trip, but we did make it to California's state capital.
