Still the only affordable diesel-powered sedan in the Canadian market, the VW Jetta TDI offers "all-around versatility and a fuel-sipping diesel powerplant," says Senior Editor, Paul Williams. But the price of a fully loaded Highline model is "steep", he says. 
Equipped with a four-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive, our roomy and well-equipped GMC Terrain test vehicle weighed in at a rather porky 1,837 kg (4,049 lbs), affecting both performance and fuel economy, reports Contributing Editor, Chris Chase. 
The Lexus GS 450h hybrid is beautifully styled and powerful, says Assistant Editor Jil McIntosh, but driving it as it's intended affects fuel efficiency - and it's expensive: "I had a tough time seeing $71,900 in my driveway," she says. 
An ideal vehicle for such urban concerns as flower shops, pizza joints, couriers and rat exterminators, the Transit Connect has a huge cargo area and "is surprisingly enjoyable to drive," says reviewer, Peter Bleakney. 
If you want hip and trendy in your minivan, you'll have to look elsewhere, says James. Otherwise, though, the Town & Country's interior is functional and well thought out. 
The only mid-size non-luxury hybrid SUV on the market, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid offers generous passenger and cargo space and a well-equipped cabin along with excellent fuel economy for a vehicle of its size, says interior reviewer, Michael Clark. 
Though the VW Touareg is "a rare SUV that combines satisfying on-road performance and off-road ability," its poor record of reliability may prove expensive if there's no warranty left, says Contributing Editor, Chris Chase. 
Ford's new 305-hp 3.7-litre V6 engine features Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) that can change the timing of each camshaft independently, "allowing a unique balance of high performance and fuel economy," says Technical Editor, Jim Kerr.
