It's been expected López, a 26-year-old Argentine, would be named to a U.S. F1 slot since November. He's dominated in his home country for the last several years, scoring three championships, 38 wins and 36 pole positions. Before that, he enjoyed a successful career in Europe, winning the 2002 Italian Formula Renault championship. He also won races at the European Formula Renault V6 and GP2 levels, and ran in the American Le Mans Series in 2007.
