Avoid generator risks by following these safety tips
A good generator can get you through a power outage following a big storm such as Hurricane Sandy, but a generator can also pose safety hazards of its own, including carbon monoxide poisoning, electric shock or electrocution and the risk of fire. Every year, people die in incidents related to portable generator use.

FTC says two paint firms misled consumers on safety claims
The Federal Trade Commission has charged the Sherwin-Williams Company and PPG Architectural Finishes, Inc., with making false and unsubstantiated claims that after tinting their paints contain "zero volatile organic compounds" (VOCs), which are potentially harmful chemicals. Both companies have agreed to settle the charges by ending the claims.

Doctors say magnetic balls caused dozens of injuries in past two years
In the past two years, hundreds of children and teens have been treated by physicians, with dozens needing surgery, after swallowing tiny super-strong magnetic balls despite labels and warnings to keep them away from children. This past summer, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission moved to recall the magnet toys, but although many manufacturers and importers say they will comply, two are contesting the move.

Safety Dream on Me recalls infant swings and high chairs due to strangulation hazard
Dream on Me has recalled about 560 Happy Swing II infant swings and 90 Bistro High Chairs due to strangulation hazards. The recalls came after Consumer Reports alerted the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Dream on Me in February that the Bistro High Chair failed to meet two key safety criteria in our tests.

Safety Many Banana Boat sunscreens pulled from shelves
Twenty-three Banana Boat sunscreens have been pulled from shelves because they can burn your skin if you come too close to a spark or flame before the sunscreen has fully dried. As a result, we no longer recommend one of the products, Banana Boat Clear UltraMist Sport SPF 30, and have removed it from our sunscreen Ratings. The other affected products were not included in our Ratings.

Safety Nissan recalls 2012-2013 Altima due to incorrectly torqued bolts
Nissan has recalled 13,919 of its model year 2012-2013 Altima sedans because they may have been equipped with transverse link bolts and power steering rack bolts that were not torqued to proper specification. The affected bolts could become loose and fall out, which can lead to a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Safety Ford recalls 2011-2013 Fiesta due to side air bag failure
Ford has recalled more than 154,000 model year 2011-2013 Ford Fiesta subcompact cars because the vehicles' side air bags fail to deploy during a collision when there is no front passenger. This would leave right rear passengers unprotected from the vehicles side curtain air bags if the Fiesta were involved in a side impact collision.
