Consumer Reports and partners launch school safety alert program
This week, Consumer Reports is launching a major new initiative to deliver critical, time-sensitive information on recalled and unsafe products to the homes of millions of school-aged children. We've teamed up with the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the National School Boards Association (NSBA) to distribute Web-based safety alerts and recall notices on children's products including toys, food, furniture and clothing.

Toyota owners: Check your floor mats
We'd like to call attention to a post on our Cars blog that affects 3.8 million Toyota and Lexus owners. Toyota is asking the owners of seven Lexus and Toyota models to remove factory driver-side floor mats to prevent potential throttle "entrapment" that can equate to uncontrolled acceleration.

Tylenol recalls 21 types of children's liquid medication
The maker of Tylenol is recalling 21 types of infants' and children's liquid Tylenol because it may be contaminated with bacteria. The affected lots were manufactured more than a year ago between April and June 2008. The full list of types and lots can be found on Tylenol's Web site.

FDA issues caution about safety alert pendants
The Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning to those who wear safety alert pendants around their necks because they may pose a strangulation hazard. The agency says that at least four deaths have been attributed to the devices.
