The man, who wasn't immediately identified, died Sunday after being taken by helicopter to a hospital.
Race promoter Francois Dumontier says the man was walking beside a crane as it moved a Sauber car that had gone off the track during the Formula One race. The worker tripped and the fell in front of the crane's wheel as he was escorting the vehicle, Dumontier said.
The crane operator couldn't see the man and drove over him.
