ALERT: Grand-Am, American Le Mans race series to merge

The American Le Mans series, which ran last weekend in Baltimore, will combine with the rival Grand-Am series.

The rumors were true: At a press conference Wednesday at Daytona International Speedway it was announced that the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series and American Le Mans Series will join forces after 13 years of essentially competing against each other.
"Today's announcement will transform sports-car racing on this continent, along with having worldwide industry implications," said Grand-Am president and CEO Ed Bennett. "Aside from the organizations involved, everybody wins: drivers, teams, manufacturers, sponsors, tracks--and most all, the fans.
