Four-time Champ Car title winner Sebastien Bourdais scored the provisional pole position during the two-hour session with a time of 3 minutes, 19.711 seconds. That shaded Peugeot teammate and former Formula One driver Alex Wurz by just over half a second and was nearly four seconds quicker than the best Audi R15 TDI.
Peugeot's four 908 HDi FAP LMP1 prototypes hogged the first two rows on the provisional grid.
